Rillatech Commercial Rooftop Solar Installation Case Study

Project Overview

Energy Gain was appointed to design and install a commercial rooftop solar installation at Rillatech, helping the business reduce electricity costs, lower carbon emissions and improve long-term energy sustainability.

With rising energy prices and increasing pressure on businesses to reduce their environmental impact, Rillatech identified solar PV as an effective way to generate renewable electricity directly on-site.

The completed 199kWp commercial solar PV system provides renewable energy generation for the site, reducing reliance on grid electricity while supporting the company’s wider sustainability objectives.

The project demonstrates how businesses can use rooftop solar to improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs and make measurable progress towards carbon reduction targets.

The Challenge

Like many commercial organisations, Rillatech needed an energy solution that could provide long-term financial and environmental benefits while integrating effectively with its existing operations.

Reducing Electricity Costs

Increasing electricity prices have created significant challenges for businesses across the UK.

Rillatech wanted to reduce exposure to fluctuating energy costs by generating more of its own renewable electricity on-site.

Maximising Available Roof Space

Commercial buildings often provide valuable unused roof space that can be converted into renewable energy generation.

The challenge was designing a solar array that maximised electricity generation while considering:

  • Available roof area
  • Panel positioning
  • Electrical requirements
  • Long-term maintenance access

Delivering a Reliable Long-Term Solution

The solar installation needed to provide consistent renewable energy generation for decades, requiring careful system design, quality components and professional installation.

Minimising Business Disruption

As with all commercial solar projects, installation activities needed to be carefully planned to ensure the business could continue operating safely throughout the works.

Our Solution

Energy Gain delivered a complete turnkey commercial rooftop solar installation, managing the project from initial assessment through to final commissioning.

Our engineering team designed a bespoke solar PV system based around Rillatech’s building characteristics and energy requirements.

The system design focused on:

  • Maximising available rooftop space
  • Optimising solar generation
  • Integrating with existing electrical infrastructure
  • Ensuring long-term system reliability

The installation programme was carefully planned to minimise disruption, with all works managed safely and efficiently by Energy Gain’s experienced project team.

Once completed, the solar PV system began generating renewable electricity directly on-site, helping Rillatech reduce grid electricity consumption and improve energy resilience.

Project Results

The completed solar PV system provides Rillatech with renewable electricity generation directly at its premises, reducing carbon emissions and supporting long-term sustainability goals.

Engineering Insight

Every commercial building presents different opportunities and challenges when installing solar PV.

Before installation, Energy Gain completed detailed design work to ensure the system delivered maximum performance while meeting the technical requirements of the site.

Key engineering considerations included:

• Solar panel layout optimisation
• Electrical system integration
• Inverter positioning
• Cable route planning
• Roof utilisation
• Future maintenance requirements

A well-designed commercial rooftop solar installation is about more than installing panels. The system must be engineered around the building, energy usage and long-term operational requirements of the business

Why Rooftop Solar is Ideal for Businesses

Commercial buildings often have large unused roof areas combined with significant daytime electricity demand, making them ideal locations for solar PV.

Businesses can use rooftop solar to:

  • Reduce electricity bills
  • Generate renewable energy on-site
  • Lower carbon emissions
  • Improve sustainability credentials
  • Reduce reliance on the electricity grid
  • Protect against future energy price increases

For organisations with consistent daytime electricity consumption, solar provides an opportunity to convert unused roof space into a valuable energy asset.
